I don't know if you agree with the sentiments in the open letter linked above, but they sum up my feelings exactly. Oddly enough, I have many close friends - people whom I both like and admire - who are completely the opposite; who embrace the new president and his policies with open arms. Funny, that.
As Lou Pritchett says in his letter, I also see America being turned into a "European-style" nation. And not in the good way, with charming cafés on every corner, amazing cheeses, and a view of the Alps from your window. Having lived in England under the Socialist government in the 1970s, I can tell you that the average person (whom socialism is supposed to elevate) was miserable - underpaid, overtaxed, and cynically disincentivized. And the movers and shakers – the people who really created wealth and work – were penalized so badly, many of them had to live abroad to protect their income.
Why do you think Maggie Thatcher was such a popular and long-serving leader in the aftermath of that regime?
I don't know how I can work to preserve traditional American values in the face of the current political situation, but you will see me at Tea Parties, at church, and working hard at my job to live the American dream as I still dream it.
