I was devastated to hear the news of a store worker at a Wal-Mart who was crushed to death by mad shoppers on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The 2000 rampaging shoppers weren't queued up to smash through Wal-Mart's doors because they were so poor they needed the bargains to survive. It was sheer greed and total lack of civil behavior that caused this tragedy.
If people would only have faith that all their needs would be met by God, they would not allow themselves to be swept up into unruly throngs.
There are many possible solutions to this sort of mass misbehavior. When you see a big crowd getting ugly, move away immediately! Shop later. Shop elsewhere. Shop another day. Don't shop at all. Use common sense!
Christmas is not about greed or bargains or consumerism. It is about love and peace and being kind to your neighbor. I hope everyone will learn a lesson from this sobering incident. Perhaps it is finally time we disassociated Christmas from shopping altogether.
